A dark cloud of doubt and disbelief looms over the future of Ontario’s racetracks, along with the thousands of workers tied to the horse racing industry.

The decision by the Liberals to end the Slots at Racetracks Program (SARP) will affect over 55,000 jobs related to the horse racing industry. Workers at racetracks across the province are also a part of this uncertain future.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is putting pressure on the Liberal Government’s decision to end the Slots at Racetracks Program, which will create devastating job loses in the horse racing industry.

(Borden, ON) - Budget cuts at the Department of National Defence are leading to sweeping job loses on military bases across the country.

At the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, the contracted-out cleaning services provided by Koprash Inc. will be eliminated by the end of the year. The loss of the contract will mean 120 cleaners will lose their jobs, effective December 31^st, 2012. This represents 60% of the cleaning staff on the Base. 

As many Canadian shoppers travel south of the border to take advantage of “Black Friday” deals on November 23, they should also expect traffic congestion to be exceptionally high and longer wait times.  These longer wait times are a direct result of staffing cuts at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

To let Canadians know how they are being affected by these cuts, border services personnel will be speaking out on Black Friday.

The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE), a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) launched a campaign over the summer to raise awareness about the negative effects of the $29.2 million in cuts to Parks Canada.
