RCMP civilian members should not be transferred to the federal payroll when they join the public service until the Phoenix pay system is fixed.

Nearly 4,000 RCMP civilian members (CMs) are slated to be deemed into the federal public service April 26, 2018. However, the Public Service Alliance of Canada strongly urges the Liberal government to avoid transferring the CMs to the troubled Phoenix pay system.

Municipalities are starting to add their voices to the growing opposition to the idea of selling Canada’s airports. Opposition to the move has already been voiced by the cities of Vancouver, Victoria, and Richmond, BC, while Calgary’s mayor has publicly spoken out against the plan. Toronto City Council is considering a motion to oppose the plan as well.

“Despite rising opposition from municipalities, airports, and the public, the Liberal government continues to pay private consultants to look into the possibility of selling Canada’s airports,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President. “Profitizing airports would only raise prices and municipalities could lose their voice in how their airports operate.”

On the Trans Day of Remembrance, November 20th, PSAC commemorates the trans, two-spirit and non-binary people who have lost their lives to transphobic violence. We also honour those who continue to face violence and discrimination as they work for more just and inclusive communities.

PSAC’s priority remains getting our members paid correctly and on time. We welcome any system that would pay our members. It is unacceptable that, after nearly two years, the federal government still can’t pay its employees properly.

We know that public sector workers are the best people to pay public sector workers. We appreciate the work that federal government IT workers do and look forward to hearing more from PIPSC about their proposal. Our members who are responsible for administering the pay system need to be part of the solution.

tentative agreement between the Public Service Alliance Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has been reached. The deal, covering more than 4,000 workers, includes a host of improvements to the collective agreement, and your bargaining team managed to remove all concessions from the table.

Many improvements to the collective agreement were achieved including:

  • A 1.25% economic increase for each year of a 4-year agreement expiring on December 31, 2018.
