Woodbine Workers Reach Deal

Toronto – 400 workers represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) who work for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) corporation Slots at Woodbine have secured a new collective agreement.

Workers had been locked-out by the OLG as of July 14, 2017, and had been picketing the Woodbine site for nearly 3 weeks.

PSAC’s bargaining team met with the OLG and a conciliation officer on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. After a lengthy day of negotiations, a tentative agreement was reached with the unanimous endorsement of our bargaining team.

Ratification votes were held throughout the day on Thursday, August 3, 2017, and the workers voted overwhelmingly yes on the new agreement, which will expire on March 31, 2019.

“We are very proud of our members who stood strong, picketing for over 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to secure a fair contract,” states Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “When workers stand together they have the power to make real gains. I would also like to thank the Labour movement, community and public support for standing with us.”
